Millat MT 390 overview and our opinion

Engine and gearbox

The MT 390 is Millat’s most powerful current tractor. According to the launch circular and specification sheets as reported by Murshid Farm Industries, it uses a 1004T engine: a 4.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel with direct injection, rated at 90 hp (BS) at 2,200 rpm with 330 Nm at 1,600 rpm and 75 hp at the PTO. Tractors.com.pk adds that it uses a Delphi fuel-injection pump. The gearbox is an 8-forward, 2-reverse sliding-spur unit giving 3.1 km/h in first and 34.3 km/h in top gear on 18.4/15-30 rear tyres.

Size and practicality

The 2WD is 3,780 mm long, 2,020 mm wide and 2,720 mm high over the exhaust, on a 2,345 mm wheelbase, with 490 mm of ground clearance and a gross weight of 2,843 kg. The 4WD is 3,810 mm long on a 2,260 mm wheelbase, with 450 mm of clearance and a 3,125 kg weight. Turning circles are 9,310 mm and 9,680 mm. Both carry a 108-litre fuel tank. Front tyres are 7.50-20 on the 2WD and 14.9-24 on the 4WD. These dimensions and gear speeds largely match Millat’s published figures for the MF 385 Deluxe.

Equipment by variant

Both versions come in Deluxe trim, with hydrostatic steering, hydraulically actuated oil-immersed multi-disc brakes, a live 540 rpm PTO and draft, position and response control hydraulics lifting 2,529 kg. Reported standard equipment includes an electronic instrument cluster, sun canopy, rear counterweights, tool box, spring-suspension seat, flat-top fenders, rear-view mirror, hydraulic quick couplings and a USB charging port. Front weights, a swinging drawbar and pintle hook are optional. The 4WD adds a driven front axle for better traction in soft or uneven ground.

Warranty

The launch material quotes a warranty of 18 months or 1,800 hours, subject to terms and conditions. Launch posters also advertised cash and instalment discounts, with no expiry date visible.

Which variant to buy

Our view: the MT 390 2WD makes most sense for buyers who were considering an MF 385 Deluxe and want more pulling torque, since it costs Rs 302,100 more than that tractor with the same lift capacity and similar size. The turbo engine’s extra 30 Nm and 3 hp at the PTO should help with rotavators and heavy trailers. The 4WD costs Rs 1,282,500 more than the 2WD and is only worth it for wet, sandy or hilly land. As this is a new model, check parts and service support with your local dealer before booking.
