Every MF 385 uses the 4.1-litre, four-cylinder 4.41 diesel, naturally aspirated with direct injection and a water-cooled oil cooler. Millat rates it at 85 hp (BS) at 2,200 rpm with 300 Nm at 1,600 rpm and estimates 72 hp at the PTO. A dual damper clutch with cerametallic lining feeds an 8-forward, 2-reverse sliding-spur gearbox. Standard and 4WD models reach 30.5 km/h on 18.4/15-30 rear tyres, while the 2WD Deluxe sheet lists taller gearing with a 34.3 km/h top speed, useful for trolley haulage.
The standard 2WD is 3,640 mm long, 2,020 mm wide and 2,480 mm high over the exhaust, on a 2,190 mm wheelbase, with 475 mm of ground clearance and a weight of 2,490 kg. The 2WD Deluxe grows to 3,780 mm on a 2,345 mm wheelbase, weighs 2,820 kg and has 490 mm of clearance. The 4WD models are 3,810 mm long on a 2,260 mm wheelbase with 450 mm of clearance; the 4WD weighs 2,900 kg and the 4WD Deluxe 3,105 kg. All have a 108-litre fuel tank. Turning circles range from 8,570 mm for the 2WD to 9,680 mm for the 4WD.
All versions have hydrostatic power steering, hydraulically actuated oil-immersed multi-disc brakes, a mechanical differential lock, a live 540 rpm PTO and draft, position and response control hydraulics. Standard kit includes a weight frame, tool box, USB port, rear-view mirror, spring-suspension seat and wider heat shield. Standard and 4WD models lift 2,145 kg. The Deluxe versions raise that to 2,529 kg with heavy-duty lower links and a lift assister, and add a sun canopy, 200 kg rear counterweights and a multi-functional dashboard showing PTO rpm with a low-fuel warning. Millat also lists front mudguards on the 4WD Deluxe. Two further variants are the 2WD and 4WD Deluxe supplied with front weights.
Warranty terms are not shown on the official MF 385 specification sheets, so get them from the dealer in writing.
Our view: the 2WD Deluxe is the pick for most buyers. For Rs 387,600 over the standard 2WD it adds 384 kg of lift capacity, a canopy, counterweights, faster road gearing and a better dashboard, which suits heavy implements and long haulage runs. The standard 2WD remains strong value at Rs 4,206,600. Choose a 4WD (Rs 5,614,500 to Rs 5,973,600) only for wet, soft or very heavy draft work. Factory front weights add Rs 62,700 on the 2WD Deluxe and Rs 117,420 on the 4WD Deluxe.
