Al-Ghazi NH 480 overview and our opinion

Engine and gearbox

Both versions of the NH 480 use the New Holland 8035.06 engine, a 4-stroke, direct-injection, three-cylinder diesel of 2,710 cc. Al-Ghazi rates it at 55 HP at the flywheel, with maximum torque of 22.7 kgm at 1,500 rpm. The engine is water cooled with dry-type cylinder liners, an oil-bath air cleaner and a mechanically governed distributor-type injection pump. Drive goes through an 8-forward, 2-reverse gearbox with constant-mesh gears and synchromesh on 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th. A pedal-operated differential lock is fitted, and the dual-plate, 11-inch dry clutch has a separate pedal for the transmission and a hand lever for the PTO.

Size and practicality

The tractor weighs 1,710 kg, has a 1,920 mm wheelbase and is 2,960 mm long, with 480 mm of ground clearance under the front axle. Front and rear track can each be set in eight positions, which helps when working between crop rows. It runs on 6.00-16 front and 12.4/11-28 rear tyres and carries 54 litres of diesel. The hydraulic lift offers draft and position control with a Category I-II three-point linkage, and the official maximum lifting capacity is 1,450 kg. The fully independent PTO turns at 540 rpm at 2,160 engine rpm, and an optional high-speed PTO runs at engine speed for high-speed implements. Lower links carry sway restrictors, and the control lever has a safety stop. Turning radius is 3.4 m with brakes and 3.9 m without.

Equipment by variant

The official catalogue prints the same specification sheet for the 480s and the 480 Power Plus, so the website does not explain what the extra Rs 100,000 buys. The sheet lists steering as an option: a manual recirculating-ball system or a hydro-assisted power steering with its own circuit. Common equipment includes band-type mechanical brakes, a seat with parallelogram suspension, three-position headlights, a plough lamp, a 12-volt electrical system with a 100 Ah battery, and a side-hinged hood for easy engine checks.

Warranty

Al-Ghazi does not publish warranty terms for its tractors on the website or in the catalogue, so buyers should ask the dealer for the warranty in writing before paying.

Which variant to buy

Opinion: the 480s is the sensible pick for smaller farms that mainly need a dependable 55 HP tractor for tillage, haulage and light PTO work. Choose the 480 Power Plus only after the dealer confirms in writing what it adds over the 480s, especially whether power steering is included, because the official catalogue lists identical specifications for both.
