Engine and gearbox

The NH Ghazi uses the New Holland 8035.05 engine, a 4-stroke, direct-injection three-cylinder diesel with a displacement of 2,931 cc. Al-Ghazi rates it at 65 HP at the flywheel, with 23.9 kgm of torque at 1,500 rpm. It has dry-type liners, water cooling through a five-row brass tube and fin radiator, forced-feed lubrication and a mechanically governed distributor-type injection pump. Power goes through an 8-forward, 2-reverse constant-mesh gearbox with synchromesh on 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th, plus a pedal-operated differential lock. The 11-inch dual-plate dry clutch has separate controls for the transmission (pedal) and PTO (hand lever).

Size and practicality

The Ghazi weighs 1,785 kg, has a 1,953 mm wheelbase and an overall length of 3,046 mm, with 480 mm of ground clearance under the front axle. Front and rear track are adjustable in eight positions. It rides on 6.00-16 front and 14.9/13-28 rear tyres, which are larger at the rear than on the NH 480. The fuel tank holds 54 litres. The hydraulic lift has draft and position control, a 22.7 L/min gear pump and a Category I-II linkage, with a maximum lifting capacity of 1,650 kg. The fully independent PTO gives 540 rpm at 2,160 engine rpm, and a high-speed PTO is available for high-speed implements. Turning radius is 3.4 m using the brakes.

Equipment

The Ghazi is sold in one version. Unlike the NH 480 sheet, its specification lists hydro-assisted power steering with an independent circuit as standard. Other equipment includes a deluxe spring-suspension seat adjustable to driver weight, halogen three-position headlamps, direction indicators, parking and hazard lights, a low oil pressure warning light, a 12-volt system with a 100 Ah battery and a starting aid, and a flat-top fender. Brakes are dry band type with mechanical control, and parking is by hand lever. The hood is side-hinged and the front grill comes off easily, so the air cleaner and battery are quick to reach for daily checks. Lower links have interchangeable balls and sway restrictors.

Al-Ghazi does not publish warranty terms on its website or in the catalogue, so ask the dealer for the warranty details in writing.

Which variant to buy

There is only one variant. Opinion: for a farmer moving up from a 55 HP tractor, the Ghazi is the better all-rounder in this range, because it adds 10 HP, standard power steering, a bigger rear tyre and 200 kg more lift capacity for about Rs 432,000 more than the 480s.
