Sazgar eVe overview and our opinion

Battery and motor

Sazgar’s eVe page lists three battery options, all on a 72-volt system: 90 Ah (6.5 kWh) with a 2 kW motor, 125 Ah (9 kWh) with a 3 kW motor, and 160 Ah (11.5 kWh) with a 3 kW motor. Approximate ranges are 100 km, 160 km and 210 km, and charging takes about 4 hours for the smallest battery and about 5 hours for the two larger ones. The separate eVe product page lists a 3 kW motor for the 6.5 kWh version, so confirm the motor rating with the dealer. A rotary selector gives reverse, neutral and drive, and Sazgar quotes a top speed of 90 km/h.

Size and practicality

Sazgar says the eVe is a redesign of its familiar rickshaw on the same basic structure and footprint. The product page lists it at 3,500 mm long, 1,325 mm wide and 1,900 mm tall, with a 2,075 mm wheelbase and 100 mm of ground clearance. It runs on 135-10 tyres, with a hydraulic front shock absorber and leaf springs with shock absorbers at the rear. Sazgar quotes a gross weight of 370 kg and a maximum payload of 400 kg. Seating capacity is not stated.

Equipment by variant

The eVe page lists disc brakes front and rear on every version, although the product page describes the front disc as optional. Sazgar highlights a restyled body, newly designed textured bench seats, a redesigned handlebar housing and a digital odometer. The website does not list any equipment differences between the three battery options; the main differences are range, motor rating and charging time.

Warranty

Sazgar does not publish warranty terms for the eVe or its battery on its website. Battery cover is especially important on an electric rickshaw, so get the terms, including the battery warranty period, in writing.

Which variant to buy

In our view, the 9 kWh version is the sweet spot for most city drivers, with a claimed 160 km of range that should cover a full working day for many. The 6.5 kWh version suits short routes with easy access to charging. The 11.5 kWh pack makes sense for drivers covering long daily distances, if a dealer can supply it; Sazgar’s January 2024 announcement mentioned only 100 km and 160 km versions. Running costs should be lower than a petrol rickshaw, but check that you have reliable home or depot charging before you buy.
