Sazgar Shandar 150 overview and our opinion

Engine and gearbox

The Shandar uses a 150cc four-stroke engine with CDI ignition, rated by Sazgar at 8.5 kW (about 11 hp) at 7,000 rpm and 10 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. Sazgar’s two spec pages disagree on cooling: the standard Shandar is listed as air-cooled and the front-hood version as water-cooled. A five-speed constant-mesh manual gearbox with reverse is fitted, along with a high/low power-gear selector. Top speed is 70 km/h in high range and 50 km/h in low range, and claimed petrol economy is 28 km per litre.

Size and practicality

Both versions measure 3,380 mm long, 1,405 mm wide and 1,865 mm tall, on a 1,950 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is a useful 150 mm, and the larger 5.00-12 tyres should help on broken roads. The rear suspension uses two-stage leaf springs with shock absorbers, and Sazgar’s product pages quote a maximum payload of 800 kg. The 20-litre fuel tank is large for this class and should mean fewer fuel stops on delivery work.

Equipment by variant

Both versions have a front drum brake, a hydraulic rear disc brake, a hydraulic front shock absorber, a 12-volt electrical system and a 35 W headlight on a pipe-frame chassis. The difference is the front hood: Sazgar says the hood version adds protection for the driver from harsh weather, while the mechanical specifications are otherwise the same. In 2022 Sazgar said the Shandar was offered in metallic red and orange.

Warranty

Sazgar’s website does not publish warranty details for the Shandar. Ask the dealer for written warranty terms covering the engine, gearbox and chassis before you buy.

Which variant to buy

In our opinion, the front-hood version is worth choosing if you work through the summer heat or the monsoon, since driver comfort matters over a long working day. The open version may suit short urban runs where the driver gets in and out often. Buyers who regularly carry very heavy loads should also look at the Jaandar 200, which has a longer 2,400 mm wheelbase and a quoted payload of up to 1,000 kg.
