The Elantra Hybrid uses a 1,580cc Smartstream 1.6 GDI petrol engine running on the Atkinson cycle, rated at 104 hp and 147 Nm. It works with a 32 kW permanent-magnet electric motor producing 170 Nm, fed by a 1.32 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. Hyundai Nishat quotes combined outputs of 139 hp and 264 Nm. Drive goes to the front wheels through a 6-speed EcoShift dual-clutch gearbox, with Eco, Smart and Sport modes. Hyundai Nishat does not publish an official fuel economy figure.
This is a bigger car than the standard Elantra: 4,710mm long, 1,825mm wide and 1,430mm tall, with a 2,720mm wheelbase and 150mm of ground clearance. The boot holds 402 litres, a little less than the petrol Elantra, and the fuel tank holds 42 litres. Rear suspension is multi-link rather than torsion beam, and there are ventilated discs front and rear. A full-size steel spare wheel is included, and kerb weight is 1,385 kg.
There is one version on sale, and it is well equipped. Highlights include 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps with thin LED daytime running lights, LED tail lamps, a power sunroof, smart entry with push-button start, remote engine start, a smart trunk and wireless charging. The cabin has leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, a 10.25-inch digital cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and four USB-C ports. Safety includes two front airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, a rear camera and an electronic parking brake with auto hold.
The price list shows 4 years or 100,000 km of cover. Hyundai Nishat’s warranty conditions add that the hybrid motor, starter-generator and power control unit are covered for 4 years or 100,000 km, and the high-voltage battery for 8 years or 160,000 km. Paint is covered for 24 months or 50,000 km. Prices are ex-factory Faisalabad and include FED, CVT and sales tax; freight and insurance are charged separately.
There is only one variant, listed at PKR 11,400,000; the same price list also shows a discounted ex-factory price of PKR 10,761,000, so check with your dealer which applies. In our opinion, the Elantra Hybrid makes sense for buyers who drive a lot and value a quieter, better-equipped cabin, but its price is close to the Tucson Hybrid crossover, and having only two airbags at this price is a clear weakness.
