Hyundai IONIQ 6

Battery and motors

The IONIQ 6 is a battery-electric car. Hyundai Nishat’s specification page describes one configuration with a 77.4 kWh lithium-ion battery running at 697 V, permanent magnet synchronous motors producing 239 kW (325 PS) and 605 Nm, all-wheel drive and a single-speed reduction gear with column-type shift-by-wire. The quoted all-electric range is up to 519 km, the longest of any Hyundai sold in Pakistan. Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes are listed. The official site does not publish charging speeds, charging times or the charging port type.

Size and practicality

The IONIQ 6 is a mid-size fastback sedan, 4,855mm long, 1,880mm wide and 1,495mm tall, with a 2,950mm wheelbase and seating for five. Hyundai Nishat lists a luggage capacity of 316 litres, which is modest for a car of this length, and 150mm of ground clearance. It rides on 20-inch alloy wheels with 245/40 R20 tyres, with MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension and 17-inch ventilated discs all round. Kerb weight is 2,020 to 2,096 kg and the turning radius is 5.91 metres. Like the IONIQ 5, it is imported as a completely built unit.

Equipment by variant

The specification page lists six airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist, a blind-spot view monitor, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, a rear camera with dynamic guidelines, rear occupant alert, a seat belt warning, tyre pressure monitoring and ISOFIX mounts. Comfort and technology include a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, a Bose sound system, a sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, wireless charging, a 180 W outlet and vehicle-to-load (V2L). The site does not show which of these differ between the Smart and Signature, so confirm equipment with a dealer.

Warranty

Hyundai Nishat’s warranty conditions give new vehicles 48 months or 100,000 km of general cover. Gari.pk reports a 4-year or 100,000 km vehicle and battery warranty for the IONIQ models; the official conditions page does not mention the IONIQ battery specifically, so ask for the battery warranty terms in writing when booking. Paint is covered for 24 months or 50,000 km.

Which variant to buy

In our opinion, the Signature is worth considering because it costs only PKR 1,000,000 more than the Smart. However, since Hyundai Nishat does not publish trim-by-trim differences, ask the dealer exactly what the extra money buys before deciding. Buyers who need a big boot may find the IONIQ 5 more practical.
