The Hyundai Elantra 1.6 Special Edition uses a 1,591cc 1.6 MPi petrol engine with DOHC 16 valves. Hyundai Nishat quotes 126 hp at 6,300 rpm and 155 Nm of torque at 4,850 rpm. Power goes to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic gearbox, and a drive mode selector offers Sport, ECO and Normal settings. Suspension is MacPherson strut at the front and torsion beam at the rear, with disc brakes on all four wheels. Hyundai Nishat does not publish a fuel economy figure for this car.
The Elantra is 4,620mm long, 1,800mm wide and 1,450mm tall, with a 2,700mm wheelbase, and it seats five. The boot holds 407 litres, the rear seat splits 60:40 for longer loads, and rear passengers get an armrest with cup holders plus their own AC vents. The fuel tank holds 50 litres. A full-size alloy spare wheel is supplied, which is reassuring on long highway trips.
Only one version is on sale. Outside, it has Tetra LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights, LED tail lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels with 215/55R16 tyres, black heated side mirrors that fold electrically, a black rear spoiler and a power sunroof. Inside, you get a smart key with push-button start, an 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, cruise control, a wireless charger, an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the myHyundai app, a 4.2-inch TFT cluster and rain-sensing wipers. Safety equipment includes two airbags, ABS, electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist, ISOFIX anchors, a rear camera with dynamic guidelines, speed-sensing door locks and a burglar alarm. Fabric seats are standard; leather in Imperial Burgundy, Regal Cappuccino or Noble Beige costs extra. The air conditioning is manual.
The official price list shows warranty cover of 4 years or 100,000 km. Prices are ex-factory Faisalabad and include FED, CVT and sales tax; freight, insurance and the leather seat option are charged separately.
With a single variant at PKR 6,449,000, the choice is simple. In our opinion, it is the best value in Hyundai’s Pakistani range: features such as a sunroof, wireless charging, stability control and a power driver’s seat are things you otherwise pay much more for in this line-up. The points to weigh are the two-airbag safety package and the manual air conditioning. Buyers who want a hybrid’s efficiency and more equipment will need to step up to the Elantra Hybrid, which costs considerably more.
