Engine and battery

The Tiggo 8 PHEV combines a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine (1,499 cc) with electric motors and Chery’s DHT150 dedicated hybrid transmission. Chery quotes a combined 370 kW (496 hp) and 735 Nm, which it says is enough for 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Drive goes to all four wheels. The 18.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery gives up to 90 km of electric driving and up to 1,200 km in total (both NEDC), and Chery quotes 16.6 km/l fuel consumption on the same cycle. The fuel tank holds 60 litres and the engine is designed for 95-octane petrol. There are six drive modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, Sand, Off-Road and Snow.

Size and practicality

The Tiggo 8 is 4,725 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,705 mm tall, with a 2,710 mm wheelbase. It has three rows and seven seats; Chery quotes 886 mm of second-row legroom and 793 mm in the third row. The second row splits 60:40 and the third row 50:50, and with both folded there is up to 1,022 litres of luggage space. A 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load socket is fitted. It runs on 19-inch alloy wheels with 235/50 R19 tyres.

Equipment

There is one version, the Tiggo 8 Premium AWD. It has ten airbags, including driver knee and second-row side airbags, plus ABS, stability and traction control, hill hold and hill descent, ISOFIX mounts, tyre pressure monitoring and front and rear parking sensors. The Level 2 driver aids add adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and lane keeping, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, door opening warning, traffic jam assist, automatic high beams and a driver monitoring system, while a 540-degree camera helps with parking. Inside are a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a windscreen head-up display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with navigation, a 12-speaker Sony system with headrest speakers, a 50 W wireless charger, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, heated and ventilated front seats, a massaging zero-gravity front passenger seat, a voice-controlled panoramic sunroof and a hands-free electric tailgate.

Warranty

The official brochure lists a standard warranty of 6 years or 150,000 km and a battery warranty of 8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first.

Which variant to buy

Only the Premium AWD is offered. In our opinion, it is the Chery to choose if you need seven seats; the third row is best suited to children and short trips, so families who rarely use it may find the Tiggo 7 better value.
