Engine and battery

The Tiggo 7 PHEV uses Chery’s Super Hybrid system: a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine (1,499 cc), a single electric motor and a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) driving the front wheels. Chery quotes a combined output of 255 kW (342 hp) and 525 Nm, with 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds. The 18.3 kWh battery gives a claimed pure-electric range of 90+ km and a combined range of more than 1,200 km with the 60-litre fuel tank full. It supports 40 kW DC fast charging, and a portable charger is supplied. There are three drive modes: Eco, Normal and Sport.

Size and practicality

At 4,553 mm long, 1,862 mm wide and 1,696 mm tall, with a 2,670 mm wheelbase and 175 mm of ground clearance, this is a compact (C-segment) SUV with seats for five. Chery quotes 861 mm of rear legroom and up to 1,386 litres of luggage space with the rear seats folded; the rear backrest splits 60:40. The 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load socket can run appliances such as an electric kettle or a projector away from home. It rides on 18-inch wheels with 225/60 R18 tyres.

Equipment

Only one version is sold, the Tiggo 7 Premium, and it is well equipped. Safety includes eight airbags (including a driver knee airbag), ABS, stability control, hill start and hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors and a 540-degree camera with a transparent-chassis view. The Level 2 driver aids include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward and rear collision warnings, lane departure warning and lane keeping, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert and braking, door opening warning, a driver monitoring system and automatic high beams. Inside there is a 24.6-inch dual curved display (two 12.3-inch screens), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-speaker Sony sound system, a 50 W wireless charger, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, heated and ventilated front seats with electric adjustment and driver memory, 64-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof and a hands-free electric tailgate.

Warranty

Chery Pakistan’s brochure lists a standard warranty of 6 years or 150,000 km and a battery warranty of 8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first, subject to the terms in the warranty handbook.

Which variant to buy

There is only the Premium FWD variant, so the choice is really whether a plug-in hybrid suits you. In our opinion, the Tiggo 7 makes most sense for buyers who can charge at home or work and keep most daily trips within the electric range, because that is where the fuel savings come from. Note that the current price is a limited-time offer; earlier reports said the full revised price would be higher, so confirm the price with a dealer before booking.
