Chery Tiggo 9

Engine and battery

The Tiggo 9 pairs Chery’s fifth-generation 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine (H4J15, 1,499 cc) with a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission and three electric motors. Chery quotes a combined 455 kW (610 hp) and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds. The 34.46 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate battery, rated IP68 for dust and water, gives a claimed 170 km of electric range and up to 1,400 km in total (both NEDC). The fuel tank holds 70 litres, and Chery quotes 16.6 km/l for the petrol engine. Chery has not published a charging rate for the Pakistani model.

Size and practicality

This is the biggest Chery on sale here: 4,810 mm long, 1,925 mm wide and 1,741 mm tall, on a 2,800 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is 183 mm unladen (147 mm laden). Chery markets it as an E-segment luxury SUV with seven seats and Cloud Suspension tuned for comfort. It rides on 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. Its size makes it the roomiest Chery here, but buyers should check that it fits their parking space.

Equipment

One well-equipped version is sold. It has ten airbags, including second-row side and driver knee airbags and a centre airbag between the front seats. Safety and driver assistance cover ABS, EBD, brake assist, stability and traction control, hill hold and hill descent, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning and prevention, emergency lane keeping, blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, door opening warning, traffic jam assist, automatic high beams and automatic parking assist. Inside there is a 15.6-inch central screen running on a Snapdragon 8155 chip, a windscreen head-up display, 14 Sony speakers, a cooled 50 W wireless charger and 64-colour ambient lighting. The front seats are heated, ventilated, massaging and have memory, and the second-row seats are heated and ventilated too.

Warranty

Chery Pakistan’s Tiggo 9 page does not state the warranty terms. The Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 carry 6 years or 150,000 km standard and 8 years or 160,000 km on the battery, but buyers should confirm the Tiggo 9’s cover with a dealer.

Which variant to buy

There is no choice of variant. In our opinion, the Tiggo 9 makes sense for buyers who want the most space, power and luxury features in the range and will use the long electric range; if you mainly need seven seats, the Tiggo 8 offers much of the same safety and technology for about Rs 3.3 million less.
