Changan M9 Sherpa

Engine and gearbox

The M9 Sherpa uses a 1,193 cc in-line four-cylinder petrol engine with multipoint fuel injection, meeting Euro IV emission rules. Changan rates it at 96 hp at 5,000 rpm and 119 Nm at 4,800 rpm. It is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox whose ratios Changan says are set up for cargo work, and the top speed is quoted at 120 km/h. Changan does not publish an official fuel average on its website.

Size and practicality

This is a working vehicle first. The body measures 4,560 mm long, 1,645 mm wide and 1,890 mm tall. The cargo deck is 2,750 mm long, 1,520 mm wide and 370 mm deep, which Changan describes as a nine-foot deck, and its sides open on three sides for easier loading from the back or either side. Payload is rated at 1,000 kg with a gross weight of 2,150 kg. A separate cargo crash cage behind the cab protects occupants from shifting loads, and cargo cage handles help when securing goods. The truck rides on 175/70 R14 LT tubeless tyres with five-lug wheels, MacPherson struts at the front and disc brakes on the front axle.

Equipment

There is one variant, the Power Carry. Equipment is basic, as expected in this class. The cabin has a grey interior, a monochrome speedometer with an LCD display for fuel, mileage and trip data, four air vents with climate control knobs, and an FM radio with an AUX input. Three-point seat belts are fitted for all occupants and the headlamps are projector units with five-level height adjustment. Changan’s website does not list airbags or ABS for the M9, and it is offered only in white. Changan says the cabin is designed to feel like a sedan’s, with seats offering the most legroom in their category, a claim we have not independently verified.

The official M9 Sherpa page does not publish warranty terms, so confirm coverage with an authorised dealer before buying.

Which variant to buy

With a single variant, the decision is whether the M9 fits your business. In our opinion, its long three-way-opening deck and one-ton payload make it a sensible choice for traders and delivery operators who carry bulky goods, but buyers who care about safety equipment should note the absence of listed airbags and ABS. Changan’s prices are provisional and the price ruling at the time of delivery applies. Under Changan’s terms, payment is accepted only by bank draft or pay order, and cancelled bookings carry a deduction of 5 to 10 percent.
