Engine and gearbox

Both Karvaan variants use a 1,193 cc four-cylinder petrol engine with multipoint fuel injection, rated in the official spec table at 96 hp (72 kW) at 5,000 rpm and 119 Nm at 4,800 rpm, and meeting Euro IV emission rules. It is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox; there is no automatic option. Changan does not publish an official fuel average on its website.

Size and practicality

The Karvaan is a compact van: 3,980 mm long, 1,620 mm wide and 1,890 mm tall, on a 2,560 mm wheelbase with 165 mm of ground clearance and a 40-litre fuel tank. It seats seven in a 6+1 layout. Sliding rear doors make getting in easy in tight streets, the second row adjusts and folds, and the third row folds and tumbles to free up cargo space. Separate rear air conditioning cools the second and third rows, which is a real benefit in Pakistani summers. Suspension is MacPherson struts at the front and leaf springs at the rear, with front disc and rear drum brakes. Tyres are 165/70 R14 LT. Front occupants get four lunar-style air vents, Changan says the new gold-beige fabric seats have 66 percent more cushioning than before, and the steering column is designed to absorb energy in a crash.

Equipment by variant

Both variants come with dual front airbags, three-point seat belts for all seats, ISOFIX anchors in the second row, an anti-theft alarm, dual air conditioning, front power windows, electric power steering, keyless entry, central locking, fog lamps and LED tail lamps. The Power Comfort has 14-inch steel wheels, projector halogen headlamps and an MP3 audio unit. The Power Plus adds ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, a rear camera, a rear charging socket, a 5-inch touchscreen MP5 player with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 14-inch alloy wheels, smoked projector headlamps and wood-pattern trim on the dashboard and doors.

Which variant to buy

In our opinion, the Power Plus is the one to buy. The Rs 200,000 premium brings ABS with EBD, which is an important safety addition, as well as the reverse camera and sensors that help in a tall, boxy vehicle, plus smartphone connectivity. The Power Comfort makes sense mainly for fleet or budget buyers who want the lowest price for seven seats with airbags and rear AC. Remember that Changan’s prices are provisional and the price at delivery applies.
