The Ravi Premium R1 is marketed as a 70cc bike, but Ravi’s price list confirms a 78cc single-cylinder, four-stroke engine, the same size as the Hamsafar Plus. Ravi does not publish power or torque on its website. PakWheels lists about 7 hp and 5.4 Nm at 6,500 rpm, a four-speed manual gearbox with a wet multi-plate clutch, and kick starting. PakWheels also quotes a top speed of around 90 km/h and fuel economy of about 40 km per litre. Ravi simply calls the engine fuel efficient.
Third-party figures give dimensions of 1,885 × 860 × 990 mm, a 1,210 mm wheelbase, 135 mm of ground clearance and a dry weight of about 80 kg. That makes it a typical light commuter that is easy to push and park. PakWheels lists an 8-litre fuel tank with a 1-litre reserve, smaller than the 9.5 litres Ravi quotes for the Hamsafar Plus. Wheels are 17-inch with 2.25 front and 2.50 rear tyres. Like other Ravi models, it sits on the company’s own sheet-metal frame.
What separates the R1 from the Hamsafar Plus is the look. Ravi describes a sportier design with a redesigned headlight and tail light and a dual-dial speedometer, which most 70cc rivals do not have. Otherwise equipment is basic: kick start and spoke wheels, with no self-start option. It comes in a single specification at Rs 111,500 ex-factory. Third-party sites list black, blue, grey and red colour options; confirm the current shades with your dealer.
Ravi’s official price list gives the Premium R1 a warranty of 10 months or 10,000 km, in line with the rest of the petrol range.
There is only one variant. In our opinion, the R1 is worth the extra Rs 3,000 over the Hamsafar Plus if you like its sportier styling and the dual-dial meter, because the engine size and running costs should be very similar. If you mainly want a cheap, plain commuter with a bigger fuel tank, the Hamsafar Plus does the same job for less. Buyers who care most about resale value should also compare it with the Honda CD 70, which costs more but is easier to sell later. As with any smaller brand, check that a Ravi dealer and parts stock are available in your city before booking.
