Metro Miku Super overview and our opinion

Battery and motor

The Miku Super has a three-stage motor that Metro rates at 1,490 watts in shift 1, 3,000 watts in shift 2 and 5,000 watts in shift 3, with peak torque of at least 235 Nm and a claimed climbing ability of 27 degrees. Power comes from two 72V 20Ah lithium-ion NCM battery packs, which Metro totals at 2,880 Wh, and Metro says this chemistry works from -20°C to 55°C. Claimed range depends on the shift: up to 120 km at 50 km/h in shift 1, 95 km at 70 km/h in shift 2 and 85 km at 85 km/h in shift 3. A full charge takes 4 to 5 hours and uses about 3 units of electricity, and the batteries are rated for 1,000 charging cycles.

Size and practicality

At 1,840 mm long, 780 mm wide and 1,050 mm tall, the Miku Super is a full-size scooter. Ground clearance is 173 mm, the highest of Metro’s scooters, and load capacity is 160 kg. It rides on 120/70-12 tubeless tyres on 12-inch aluminium alloy rims front and rear. In our view, the wide tyres and high clearance make it the best Metro for broken roads and speed breakers.

Equipment

There is a single version. It comes with front and rear disc brakes with a combined braking system (CBS), mobile app control, fingerprint operation, an energy-retrieving controller, an energy monitoring meter, a reverse drive option, a side-stand sensor and an anti-theft alarm. Colours are Red, Blue and Black.

Running costs

Metro quotes about 3 units of electricity per full charge. At the Rs 30 per unit rate used as the default in Metro’s own savings calculator, that works out to roughly Rs 90 per full charge (our estimate). Actual cost depends on your tariff slab and charging habits, and peak-hour or commercial rates will be higher.

Warranty

Metro gives a 24-month warranty on the motor and batteries. As with all its models, Metro notes that range and speed figures come from controlled testing, that battery capacity falls gradually with use, and that buyers should confirm final details with an authorised dealer.

Is it worth buying?

Our opinion: the Miku Super is the only Metro that can keep up with traffic on faster city roads, and its CBS brakes, app control and fingerprint operation give it a more premium feel than anything else in the range. The catch is price. At Rs 550,000 it costs more than twice as much as an M6 Empower or Metrix NCF, and its claimed 120 km range is no better than those cheaper models. Buy it if speed and features matter more to you than value; if you mostly ride below 60 km/h, the Metrix or M6 Empower makes more sense.
