Metro Dabang overview and our opinion

Battery and motor

The Dabang uses a multi-mode motor rated at 1,200 to 2,200 watts, with Eco, Normal and Sport modes, and Metro quotes a top speed of 55 km/h. The NCF version has a 72V 27Ah Nano Carbon Fiber (graphene) battery, which Metro rates at 1,944 Wh, with a claimed range of up to 105 km. It charges in 6 to 7 hours, uses about 2 units of electricity per charge and is rated for 1,000 cycles. The LFP version has a 76.8V 30Ah lithium iron phosphate battery rated at 2,304 Wh, with a claimed range of up to 120 km, 4 to 5 hours of charging, about 2.5 units per charge and up to 1,100 cycles. Real-world range will depend on rider weight, temperature and riding style.

Size and practicality

The Dabang is 1,820 mm long, 690 mm wide and 1,115 mm tall, with 145 mm of ground clearance and a 160 kg load capacity. It uses 3.00-10 6-ply tubeless tyres front and rear on iron alloy rims. In our opinion, its slim 690 mm width should help in tight traffic, but on rough roads the 10-inch wheels will feel busier than the 12-inch wheels on the Metrix or M6 Empower.

Equipment by variant

Both versions have a front disc and rear drum brake, cruise control, NFC, a reverse drive option, a side-stand sensor, an anti-theft alarm and an energy monitoring meter. Metro does not list equipment differences between the versions beyond the battery. Colours are Grey and Red.

Running costs

Metro quotes about 2 units of electricity per full charge for the NCF version and 2.5 units for the LFP version. At the Rs 30 per unit rate used as the default in Metro’s own savings calculator, that works out to roughly Rs 60 per full charge for NCF and Rs 75 for LFP (our estimate). Actual cost depends on your tariff slab and charging habits, and peak-hour or commercial rates will be higher.

Warranty

The NCF version has a 24-month battery and motor warranty. The LFP version has a 36-month battery warranty, and the motor is covered for 24 months.

Which variant to buy

Our view: the Dabang NCF sits between the T9 Sport and Thrill Pro on price. Compared with the Thrill Pro NCF at its current offer price, it costs Rs 1,000 more, is 5 km/h faster and adds cruise control and NFC, but it gives up the rear disc brake and alloy rims. Choose the Dabang if you value convenience features and a little more speed; choose the Thrill Pro if braking matters more to you. The LFP version adds 15 km of claimed range and faster charging for Rs 65,000 more, which we think is only worthwhile for long daily commutes.
