The E8S Mountain Climber uses a multi-mode motor rated at 2,000 to 3,500 watts, with Eco, Normal and Sport modes. Metro quotes a maximum torque of 140 Nm, which, along with the name, points to its focus on climbing hills and carrying loads. Top speed is up to 60 km/h. The battery is a 72V 38Ah Nano Carbon Fiber pack with a claimed range of up to 125 km. A full charge takes 6 to 7 hours and uses about 3 units of electricity, and Metro rates the battery for up to 1,000 cycles. The specification table labels the charging figures as lithium iron phosphate, but the rest of the page describes a Nano Carbon Fiber battery.
The scooter is 1,900 mm long, 720 mm wide and 1,080 mm tall, with 145 mm of ground clearance. Its 170 kg load capacity is the highest Metro quotes for any of its two-wheelers. Tyres are tubeless, 90/90-12 at the front and a wider 100/80-12 at the rear, on aluminium alloy rims. Our opinion: the wider rear tyre and high load rating make it a good choice for riders who regularly carry a passenger or shopping.
There is one version. It comes with front and rear disc brakes, cruise control, a traction control system, NFC, electronic seat unlock, a driver seat sensor, a side-stand sensor, a reverse drive option and an energy monitoring meter. Colours are Red and Grey. Metro’s page does not list an anti-theft alarm for this model, unlike most of the range.
Metro quotes about 3 units of electricity per full charge. At the Rs 30 per unit rate used as the default in Metro’s own savings calculator, that works out to roughly Rs 90 per full charge (our estimate). Actual cost depends on your tariff slab and charging habits, and peak-hour or commercial rates will be higher.
Metro offers a 24-month warranty on the motor and battery.
Our view: the E8S Mountain Climber makes sense for riders in hilly areas or those carrying heavy loads, thanks to its strong torque figure, 170 kg rating and traction control. For flat-city commuting, though, the Metrix NCF is cheaper at its offer price, faster at 65 km/h and has a similar claimed range. Note that Rs 265,000 is a discounted price; the regular price is Rs 284,000, and the model page and products page show different offer end dates, so confirm the current price with a dealer before booking.
