The Nexus has a 500-watt motor with a large 6-tube controller module, and Hi-Speed quotes a top speed of 40 km/h. Charging takes 8 to 10 hours. As with the Polo, Hi-Speed does not state the battery chemistry, voltage, capacity or range, so you should ask the dealer for those numbers in writing. The modest power and speed make the Nexus best suited to short, slow city journeys, such as school runs, markets and nearby offices.
The Nexus uses 3.0-14 tubeless tyres, which are larger than the 10-inch wheels on many entry-level electric scooters and should cope better with potholes. Braking is by a front disc and a rear drum. Hi-Speed does not publish the dimensions, weight, seat height or ground clearance, so try the riding position at the showroom before you commit.
There is one version. The official list includes an LED headlight with LED daytime running lights, key plus remote control security and Bluetooth. Features found on Hi-Speed’s pricier scooters, such as a USB port, reverse mode, cruise control and a side-stand sensor, are not mentioned for the Nexus.
Hi-Speed gives 1 year of warranty on the motor and 1 year on the battery, much shorter than on its LFP models. Hi-Speed does not publish prices. PakWheels lists the Nexus at Rs 115,000; another price site lists it at Rs 310,000, which looks out of line with the 500-watt specification, so check the price directly with a dealer.
The Nexus is designed to be charged overnight from an ordinary socket, and as an electric scooter it needs no petrol, engine oil or tuning. Its biggest long-term cost will be the battery, which Hi-Speed covers for only one year. In our opinion, ask the dealer what battery is fitted, what a replacement costs and how long one takes to arrive, so you know the true cost of ownership before you commit.
In our opinion, the Nexus makes sense for buyers who want the cheapest possible electric scooter from an established local brand for short daily trips with overnight charging. Its specification on paper is the same as the Polo, so choose between them on styling, colour and the price your dealer offers. Because the battery details and range are not published and the battery warranty is only a year, it is worth stretching to an LFP scooter such as the RMI 300 Neo if you plan to ride every day.
