The second-generation MG ZS comes with two powertrains. The ZS Vibe uses a 1,495cc naturally aspirated petrol engine with a CVT gearbox, and MG quotes 81 kW (about 109 hp) and 140 Nm. The Hybrid+ Excite and Hybrid+ Essence pair a 1,498cc petrol engine with an electric motor rated at 100 kW (nominal) and a 3-speed hybrid transmission, for a combined 158 kW (about 212 hp) and 465 Nm. Their 1.83 kWh battery recharges itself through energy regeneration, so there is no charging port. Drivers can choose between three regeneration levels and three drive modes (Eco, Normal and Sport). Every ZS is front-wheel drive, and MG says all versions are engineered to run on Pakistani RON 92 petrol.
The new ZS measures 4,430 mm long, 1,818 mm wide and 1,635 mm tall on a 2,610 mm wheelbase, with 161 mm of running clearance. Boot space is 443 litres, rising to 1,457 litres with the 60:40 split rear seat folded. The Vibe has a 55-litre fuel tank, while the Hybrid+ versions carry 41 litres. The Vibe rides on 215/55 R17 tyres with a space-saver spare, and the Hybrid+ models use 215/50 R18 tyres with a tyre repair kit.
Every ZS gets six airbags, stability control, hill start assist, auto hold, an electric parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX mounts and rear parking sensors. The MG Pilot driver-assistance suite is standard, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert, and MG says the petrol ZS carries a 5-star ANCAP rating. The Vibe has halogen headlights, a reverse camera, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four speakers, fabric seats and MG iSMART connected-car functions such as remote climate control. The Hybrid+ Excite adds LED headlights, a 360-degree camera, a 12.3-inch screen, six speakers, more USB ports and a drive mode button. The Hybrid+ Essence adds PVC upholstery, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat and ventilated front seats. MG also advertises a panoramic sunroof on the Hybrid+ models.
MG offers a 5-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty on all ZS variants, and the Hybrid+ high-voltage battery is covered for 8 years or 150,000 km, whichever comes first.
Our opinion: the Hybrid+ Excite is the best choice for most buyers. It costs Rs 900,000 more than the Vibe but brings nearly twice the power, LED headlights, the 360-degree camera and the bigger screen, and MG itself recommends the Hybrid+ for the lowest running costs. Pick the Essence only if ventilated seats and a powered driver’s seat matter to you, and the Vibe if the lowest purchase price is the priority. Note that MG raised Hybrid+ prices from 1 October 2026 after the sales-tax change on hybrid cars.
