The MG HS PHEV is the plug-in hybrid version of the first-generation HS, which MG still lists on its Pakistani website alongside the newer HS range. It combines a turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and a 16.6 kWh ternary lithium battery. MG quotes a combined output of 209 kW (about 280 hp) and 480 Nm, sent through a 10-speed transmission, and a 0–100 km/h time of 7.1 seconds. The battery can be charged from an external supply and is also topped up by regenerative braking. MG advertises more than 50 km of electric-only range, which is enough for many daily city commutes without using petrol.
MG’s Pakistani website does not publish dimensions, boot space or fuel tank capacity for the HS PHEV, and the official brochure could not be read, so we have left those figures out. It is a five-door family SUV with a power tailgate and silver roof rails, and MG describes a cabin with soft-touch seats and a new Monaco Blue interior theme.
Safety equipment includes six airbags and MG Pilot, which MG describes as offering Level 2 partially automated driving functions. The listed systems are adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, intelligent high beam control, lane keep assist, rear traffic alert, traffic jam assist and a speed assistance system. Outside there are dual-function LED headlights, diamond-cut alloy wheels, heated mirrors and rear parking sensors, along with cameras for parking. Inside, a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit replaces conventional dials, and a floating touchscreen supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
MG’s HS PHEV page displays a 5-year warranty badge, but the full terms are not spelled out, so confirm the mileage limit and battery cover with a dealer. Under MG’s Start Smart campaign, buyers can save up to Rs 600,000 on the HS PHEV through discounted pricing, a fuel card and home and portable chargers, subject to availability and dealer terms.
There is only one version. In our opinion, it makes most sense for buyers who can secure a Start Smart deal and want a proven plug-in SUV at a lower price than the new HS Super Hybrid. If you plan to drive mostly on electricity, the newer Super Hybrid, with its 24.7 kWh battery and up to 135 km of NEDC range, is the stronger long-term buy for only a modest premium. Ask the dealer whether stock of this older model is still available before booking.
