MG U9

Engine and drivetrain

The MG U9 is MG’s first pickup truck in Pakistan and is sold in a single Explore Pro variant. It is powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 160 kW (about 215 hp) and 520 Nm of torque. Pakistani launch coverage reports a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox and a BorgWarner intelligent 4WD system. MG highlights a “Three Lock” 4WD layout designed to keep traction on all terrain types, together with double-wishbone front suspension and an independent multi-link rear, which MG says gives a steadier, more comfortable ride than a typical leaf-sprung pickup. An Off-Road Expert Mode adds crawl control, a transparent-chassis camera view, a front-clearance display and a wading sensor that uses ultrasonic sensors to measure water depth.

Size and practicality

Launch reports put the U9 at 5,500 mm long, 1,997 mm wide and 1,874 mm tall on a 3,300 mm wheelbase, with 220 mm of ground clearance. MG quotes a 1,200-litre tub. The optional Smart Hatch midgate on the Explore Pro opens the cabin to the tub, creating up to 1,600 litres of space and allowing loads up to 2.4 m long. The electric folding tailgate includes a built-in rear step, and the rear seats fold in several ways. It rides on 20-inch alloy wheels.

Equipment

For a pickup, the U9 is very well equipped. Safety coverage includes seven airbags, Level 2 driver assistance, driver attention monitoring and a 540-degree camera system, and MG cites a 5-star ANCAP rating. The driver’s seat is heated, ventilated and has a massage function. The cabin has dual 12.3-inch screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, a JBL sound system and a panoramic sunroof. MG notes that some features, such as the pass-through hatch and the panoramic sunroof, may depend on variant or option, so check the exact specification with your dealer.

Warranty

MG’s U9 page does not publish warranty terms, and the official technical flyer could not be read, so ask the dealer for the warranty period and conditions before booking.

Which version to buy

There is only the Explore Pro. In our opinion it is aimed at buyers who want SUV-like comfort and technology in a pickup and are willing to pay well above mainstream double cabs for it. If you mainly need a workhorse, a conventional diesel pickup will cost far less. If you want a luxury lifestyle truck with serious off-road hardware, the U9 is a distinctive choice, and the Smart Hatch option is worth considering if you carry long items.
