GAC Aion V overview and our opinion
Battery and motor
The GAC Aion V Premium is a five-seat, front-wheel-drive electric SUV that Lucky Motor Corporation imports fully built. Its 64.5 kWh LFP battery uses GAC’s Magazine Battery technology. The Pakistani specification quotes 134 hp and 240 Nm from the electric motor. Claimed range is 435 km WLTP and 520 km NEDC. The car is not built for outright speed, but its strong low-speed torque suits stop-and-go city driving.
Charging
Home AC charging runs at 6.6 kW. DC fast charging is rated up to 150 kW, with a quoted 10–80% charge in 24 minutes. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) is standard, so the battery can power external devices on trips or during power cuts.
Size and practicality
The Aion V is 4,605 mm long, 1,876 mm wide and 1,686 mm tall, on a 2,775 mm wheelbase. Its boxy shape gives it an upright, traditional SUV look. Boot space is 427 litres, rising to 978 litres with the rear seats folded. The rear seats recline up to 137 degrees in what GAC calls Bed Mode, and the roof rack is rated for up to 75 kg. It rides on 225/45 R19 tyres.
Equipment
Only one variant, the Premium, is sold. It gets a 14.6-inch touchscreen, an 8.88-inch digital cluster, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, nine speakers and ambient lighting. Comfort features include wireless phone charging, dual-zone automatic climate control with a PM2.5 filter, a panoramic sunroof and an electric tailgate. The driver’s seat has six-way power adjustment, the passenger seat has four-way, and upholstery is artificial leather. Safety is a highlight. There are seven airbags, a surround-view camera, and front and rear sensors. The ADAS suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and door opening warning. Internationally, the Aion V has a five-star Euro NCAP rating.
Warranty
The vehicle is covered for 8 years or 160,000 km, and the battery for 8 years or 200,000 km.
Which variant to buy
With a single variant on sale, the choice is between the Aion V and its rivals. In our view, it is one of the best-equipped family EVs available in Pakistan at Rs 8,899,000, especially for buyers who can charge at home. Its 150 kW fast charging also makes intercity trips more practical than in the smaller Aion UT. It is not an off-roader, so buyers who need four-wheel drive or rough-road ability should look elsewhere.
