The BMW i5 is the fully electric version of the latest 5 Series sedan. Dewan Motors currently lists one version in Pakistan, the i5 eDrive40, which drives the rear wheels. BMW’s official Pakistan site explains that the battery uses fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology, with a slim design that fits in the car’s floor to save space. It also describes a ‘Boost’ paddle on the steering wheel: pull it for more than 0.8 seconds and the car releases maximum power, and Launch Control is available for quick getaways. BMW’s international technical data lists 230 kW and 400 Nm as normal output, rising to 250 kW and 430 Nm with Boost, a usable battery of 81.2 kWh, a WLTP range of up to 582 km and DC fast charging up to 205 kW.
As a 5 Series, the i5 is a large executive sedan with seats for five. Dewan Motors has not published exterior dimensions or boot capacity on its Pakistan website, so ask the showroom for the exact figures if you plan to use the car with a driver or for long family trips.
The official site highlights the illuminated BMW Kidney Iconic Glow grille, a Dynamic Light Carpet that lights the ground around the doors, and the Interaction Bar, a lit strip across the dashboard with touch controls for climate and other functions. It also mentions the Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System with 18 speakers and 655 watts, the latest iDrive operating system with wireless Apple CarPlay, and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. The site does not clearly separate standard and optional equipment for the Pakistani car, so confirm the exact specification of the unit you buy.
BMW Dewan offers a 2-year, unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty, and fifth-generation electric BMWs like the i5 get an 8-year or 160,000 km high-voltage battery warranty, whichever comes first. Local press also reports a free wallbox charger with installation for BMW electric car buyers.
There is only one i5 on the current price list, the eDrive40 at Rs 33,500,000, so the choice is easy. In our opinion it is strong value within BMW’s own range: it costs Rs 6,199,000 less than the i4 M60 xDrive yet gives you a bigger, more luxurious sedan with a longer claimed range. If you were considering a top i4, the i5 deserves a test drive first.
