Engine and drivetrain

The Daewoo BH116 is a rear-engined intercity coach built in Pakistan by Daewoo Pak Motors (DPML), a joint venture between Daewoo Bus Corporation of Korea and Afzal Motors. The official specification lists 340 hp, Euro II emissions and a 430 mm clutch. Daewoo Pak Motors does not state the engine size, fuel type or gearbox on its website. Afzal Motors, the Pakistani joint-venture partner, quotes 145 kg-m of torque (about 1,422 Nm) for the BH116, the highest figure among the Daewoo buses it lists.

Size and practicality

The BH116 is 11.5 metres long and has a gross vehicle weight of 16,500 kg. It seats 44 passengers plus two crew seats (listed as 44+1+1) on Korean luxury seats in a 2×2 layout, so every passenger gets a window or aisle seat rather than the tighter 3×2 rows used on cheaper buses. Air-bag suspension is standard, and Afzal Motors describes the chassis as a monocoque design with a kick-up section. Alloy wheels are fitted. The official site does not publish width, height, wheelbase, fuel tank capacity or tyre size.

Equipment

The BH116 comes in one specification. It has full air brakes with ABS, a facelifted body design, two LED screens (32-inch at the front and 17-inch in the centre of the cabin), a rear camera, a hot and cold climate unit, curtains and a PA system. Safety equipment includes three fire extinguishers and two emergency door hammers. Compared with the BH115, it adds ABS, air suspension, the second screen, the rear camera and the new design, but carries one passenger fewer.

Price and warranty

Daewoo Pak Motors does not publish an ex-factory price list or warranty terms online, so buyers need to ask the company or an authorised dealer for a quotation. Bus prices are normally quoted per order and can change with seating and body specification, so get the full specification and warranty terms in writing.

Which version to buy

Our view: the BH116 is the sensible middle choice in the Daewoo range for intercity operators. It is the same length as the BH115 but adds ABS and air suspension, which should make it safer and more comfortable on long motorway runs. Operators who want the most premium cabin should look at the longer BH120F, while fleets on a tight budget may consider the BH115 once prices are known. The BH116 is also listed in the fleet of Daewoo Express, a separate company that operates intercity services, so mechanics in Pakistan are likely to be familiar with it, but confirm after-sales support with the maker before buying.
