Battery and motor

The X8 uses a 350-watt motor with three riding modes, and Metro quotes a top speed of up to 25 km/h. Its 36V 10Ah lithium battery is detachable, and Metro claims up to 40 km per charge. Charging is the quickest in Metro’s range at 2 to 4 hours, and the battery is rated for up to 1,100 cycles. The product page describes the battery as lithium in most places but mentions lithium iron phosphate in one section, so ask the dealer to confirm the chemistry.

Size and practicality

The X8 measures 1,083 mm long, 420 mm wide and 1,186 mm tall, with 115 mm of ground clearance and a load capacity of 100 to 125 kg. It uses 10 × 2.125-inch tyres on iron alloy rims. As a folding design it can be carried into a flat, an office or a car boot; in our opinion, this portability is its main reason to exist. Metro does not publish the folded size or the scooter’s weight, which buyers should check in person before buying.

Equipment

There is one version. Equipment includes a rear disc brake, a digital meter, three riding modes and a detachable battery. One section of the page refers to front and rear disc brakes and hydraulic shock absorption, but the specification table lists only a rear disc, so confirm the brake setup at the dealer. The product images show the scooter in Black.

Warranty

Metro gives a 12-month warranty on the motor and battery, one of the shortest in its range.

Is it worth buying?

Our view: the X8 is not a replacement for a motorcycle or a full-size scooter. With a 25 km/h top speed, small wheels and a short range, it is best for last-mile trips, such as from a bus or metro station to the office, or for getting around a campus or housing society. For those jobs, the folding frame, quick charging and removable battery make it handy. At its Rs 85,000 offer price it is the cheapest model on Metro’s products page, though anyone who needs to cover longer distances or ride on main roads should choose a seated scooter instead. Metro’s website lets you book a test ride and find the nearest dealer through its store locator. We would try the folding mechanism and carry the scooter a few metres before buying, since Metro does not publish its weight.
