Motor and battery

The JE-100L Thunder uses a 1500 watt motor and a 60V 30Ah lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Jolta quotes a top speed of 60 km/h, a range of 70 to 80 km per charge and a charging time of 3 to 4 hours. These are the same performance and charging figures Jolta publishes for the JE-70L Fury. The short charging time is the Thunder’s main advantage over Jolta’s cheaper G models, which need 5 to 8 hours.

Size and practicality

Jolta does not publish dimensions, weight, seat height or ground clearance for the Thunder, so its website does not show how it differs physically from the JE-70L Fury. The quick 3 to 4 hour charge is handy for riders who charge at work or cannot charge overnight. Cruise control helps on long straight roads and the reverse gear helps in tight parking. Jolta lists the Thunder in the PAVE Scheme category of its online shop, so buyers selected under that government scheme should confirm eligibility on the official PAVE portal before visiting a showroom.

Equipment

The Thunder comes in one version with front and rear drum brakes. The official page lists cruise control, reverse gear, a digital speedometer and an NFC card. There are no disc brakes or alloy wheels; in the JE-100L family, those come only with the alloy edition of the JE-100L SE APEX. Its digital speedometer and NFC card are the main equipment upgrades over the cheaper JE-70G Wolf and JE-100G Fox, which have neither.

Warranty

Jolta lists a 24 month warranty for the Thunder. Ask whether the battery is covered for the full period, and get the terms in writing. The 24 month term is four months longer than the 20 months Jolta gives its G models and scooters. Jolta’s website also promotes doorstep after-sales service and genuine spare parts, so ask your nearest dealer how service visits are arranged in your city.

Which variant to buy

Jolta’s online shop lists the Thunder at Rs 249,900, while its model page does not show a price, so confirm the figure with a dealer when you enquire. On paper the Thunder has the same motor, battery size, range, charging time and warranty as the JE-70L Fury, which costs Rs 10,000 less. Our opinion: choose the Thunder only if you prefer its design after seeing both bikes in person. For about Rs 25,000 more, the spoke-wheel JE-100L SE APEX offers a much bigger 60V 50Ah battery and 110 to 120 km of claimed range, which we think is the better use of the extra money for most daily commuters.
