The Storm family is built around an 800 watt motor with a quoted top speed of 50 km/h. The standard Storm uses a 60V 26Ah graphene battery, and Jolta quotes 60 to 70 km of range with a 6 to 8 hour charge. The Storm Pro has a larger battery, which Jolta lists as 60V 38Ah in its page summary and 60V 36Ah in its spec table, and this raises the quoted range to 80 to 90 km. Charging the Pro takes 7 to 9 hours, an hour longer than the standard model.
Jolta has not published dimensions, weight, seat height or storage figures for either Storm. Jolta’s feature list for the Storm mentions a low wind resistant body, aluminium alloy rims, rolling-resistant tyres and a side stand sensor. Both versions have cruise control and a reverse gear, which is useful when pulling a scooter out of a tight parking space or a narrow gate. Charging is an overnight job on both versions, so you will need a safe place to plug in at home.
Both versions have front and rear disc brakes, cruise control and reverse gear. The Storm Pro page also lists a USB port and a digital speedometer, which the standard Storm page does not mention. Jolta’s Storm page lists five colours: red, black, white, blue and green. The Storm Pro page does not list colours, so check which shades are available at your dealer.
Jolta lists a 20 month warranty for both the Storm and the Storm Pro. Ask whether the graphene battery is covered for the full period. The 20 month term is four months shorter than the 24 months Jolta gives its lithium-battery motorcycles. Jolta’s website also promotes doorstep after-sales service and genuine spare parts, so ask your nearest dealer how service visits are arranged in your city.
The Storm costs Rs 169,900 and the Storm Pro costs Rs 182,900. Our opinion: the Pro is worth the extra Rs 13,000 for most riders, because it adds about 20 km of claimed range, a USB port for charging your phone and a digital speedometer. The standard Storm makes sense if you ride less than about 30 km a day and want the lowest price for a Jolta scooter with disc brakes. Before deciding, also compare the Neo at Rs 179,900, which lists a stronger 1000W motor, a USB port and a digital speedometer for Rs 3,000 less than the Storm Pro, though with the shorter 60 to 70 km range.
