The Roshni uses a 1200W brushless motor and a 72V 36Ah graphene battery, managed by what Crown describes as an intelligent battery management system with more than 40 protections. Crown quotes a top speed of 55-60 km/h and a range of 115-120 km per charge. The trade-off is charging time: 6 to 8 hours with the supplied 72V 5A charger. There are four speed modes, an energy recovery (regenerative) system and a reverse function for parking, and the claimed climbing angle is up to 20 degrees.
The Roshni measures 1810 x 650 x 1100 mm with a 1330 mm wheelbase, weighs 124 kg and has a rated load capacity of 160 kg. It rides on tubeless 90/80-12 tyres front and rear. Storage is provided under the seat, a USB port allows mobile charging, and a swingarm cover protects the rear against debris and corrosion. Crown says it is suitable for daily errands and light delivery work.
There is one version, with a front disc brake and a rear drum brake, a digital dashboard showing speed and battery status, LED headlights, a remote alarm anti-theft system, keyless start, four speed modes and rear-view mirrors. Crown also includes its ToughGuard protection as a complimentary gift. It is offered in black, white, blue, silver and red. Crown’s FAQ describes the Roshni as the basic model, without the digital upgrades of the Roshni X.
As a graphene-battery model, the Roshni has shorter battery cover than Crown’s LFP scooters: 18 months or 18,000 km for the battery, 36 months or 36,000 km for the motor and controller on a repairable basis, and 12 months or 12,000 km for body parts.
With a 6 to 8 hour charging time, the Roshni is really an overnight-charge scooter, so it suits riders with reliable power at home. Crown sells it through its dealer network, offers bank installment plans, and says spare parts and service are available through its authorised centres.
In our opinion, the Roshni appeals to buyers who want a long claimed range for a moderate price and can charge overnight. However, the Roshni X costs Rs 55,000 more and brings a lithium LFP battery with a 4-year warranty, a stronger motor, dual disc brakes and a much shorter charging time. If you plan to keep your scooter for several years, the LFP battery’s longer warranty is worth weighing carefully against the Roshni’s lower purchase price. The Roshni is not shown in Crown’s main model menu, so confirm stock first.
