Toyota lists four versions: 4×4, 4×2 Upspec, 4×2 and Deckless. The three 4×2 versions use the 2GD-FTV four-cylinder common-rail engine with a displacement of 2,393 cc and a Euro-II rating. It makes 110 kW, or about 148 hp, at 3,400 rpm and 343 Nm from 1,400 to 2,800 rpm, and drives the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. Toyota’s page does not give the engine or gearbox details of the 4×4 version in its text.
The 4×2 Upspec is 5,335 mm long, while the 4×2 and Deckless are 5,265 mm. All three are 1,800 mm wide and 1,690 mm tall, with a 3,085 mm wheelbase, 184 mm of ground clearance, an 80-litre fuel tank and seats for two. They run on 205/70 R15C tyres with steel wheels and have a 6.3-metre turning radius. Gross vehicle weight is 2,850 kg, and the Deckless, which is sold as a cab and chassis for custom bodies, weighs 1,495 kg against 1,675 kg for the others, leaving more room for a body and payload.
All three 4×2 versions get driver and passenger airbags, ABS with EBD, front ventilated disc brakes, an engine immobilizer and hydraulic power steering with tilt adjustment. The cabin has fabric seats, a heater, side demisters, a digital clock, a 12-volt socket and an illuminated entry system. Toyota’s table shows no air conditioning or fog lamps on any of them.
The Upspec adds a side body stripe and a painted rear bumper, and both it and the 4×2 get a deck guard. The 4×2 and Deckless have no rear bumper.
Toyota Pakistan says all its vehicles carry a warranty of 3 years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first. Its buyer’s guide lists a booking payment of Rs 2,500,000 for Hilux models other than the Revo. Toyota’s page says prices include 18% sales tax but leaves the price cells blank. It also notes that the listed prices apply to new model orders and exclude withholding tax.
In our opinion, the Upspec is the one to choose if the pickup will carry goods every day and also represent your business, because it has a longer body and a tidier finish. Buyers who plan to fit a custom body, such as a box or tanker, should pick the Deckless, and anyone working off-road should ask a dealer about the 4×4.
