Engine and gearbox

This Hiace is offered with two engines. The diesel is the 2KD-FTV, a 2,494 cc 16-valve DOHC unit, and the petrol is the 2TR-FE, a 2.7-litre, 2,694 cc 16-valve DOHC engine with VVT-i. Toyota’s Pakistani page does not quote power, torque or gearbox details for either engine, so check which gearbox your chosen version uses with the dealer.

Size and practicality

Four versions are listed: Standard Roof diesel, Standard Roof Dual AC diesel, High Roof Dual AC diesel and Standard Roof Dual AC petrol. The high roof gives more headroom for passengers who need to move around inside. Toyota highlights a spacious entry and exit, sliding windows and front seats with headrests, but it does not list dimensions, seating capacity or fuel tank size on the page.

The chassis uses double-wishbone front suspension and a rigid leaf-spring rear axle, a set-up chosen for durability and load carrying. Toyota also mentions a high-rigidity, corrosion-resistant body and reinforced upper and lower front frame members.

Equipment by variant

Every version gets driver and front passenger airbags, ABS, crumple zones, a brake pedal and steering shaft intrusion reduction system, and WIL concept seats designed to reduce whiplash injuries. The dashboard has a four-spoke urethane steering wheel with manual tilt, dial controls and a radio with CD player. Outside, the Hiace has crystal headlamps, a high-mounted stop lamp and a single rear window wiper.

The Dual AC versions add a second air-conditioning system with separate air vents for passengers, which makes a big difference in summer. The basic Standard Roof diesel is the version without this second system. Toyota describes dual air-conditioning controls and dial controls with centre buttons on the dashboard. Before booking, confirm the price, delivery time and warranty activation with your dealer.

Warranty

Toyota Pakistan says all its locally assembled and imported vehicles carry a warranty of 3 years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first. Prices on the page are stated to include 25% sales tax and exclude withholding tax, but every price cell asks buyers to contact a dealership.

Which variant to buy

In our opinion, the High Roof Dual AC diesel is the most useful version for staff or school transport, because it combines extra headroom, passenger air conditioning and the economical diesel engine. The Standard Roof Dual AC petrol may suit operators in areas where diesel quality is a concern. Compare quotes against the newer Hiace Deluxe, which offers more modern equipment.
