Engine and gearbox

Every Hiace Deluxe uses Toyota’s 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre diesel engine with a turbocharger and intercooler. Toyota’s page mentions a 6-speed automatic gearbox, and the Tourer Deluxe High Roof is the version sold explicitly as an automatic. Toyota does not quote power or torque figures for the Hiace on its Pakistani page.

Size and practicality

The Hiace comes in standard-roof and high-roof forms and in two body lengths, with a minimum turning radius of 5.9 metres for the standard body and 6.9 metres for the long body. Its semi-bonneted front end moves the engine forward, which Toyota says helps keep the cabin quieter. A wider sliding door, a large door step with a lamp and a wide front step make getting in and out easier, and it runs on 16-inch steel wheels.

Storage includes door pockets that take A4 files, a console tray, an overhead console and, on the long body, an overhead tray. Rear passengers get seats trimmed in synthetic leather and fabric, USB ports, reading lamps and armrests, and the manual air conditioning feeds roof-mounted vents for every occupant.

Equipment by variant

All versions get driver and front passenger airbags, ABS, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror with a reversing camera display, vertical five-LED headlamps, fog lamps in the bumper, an LED high-mounted stop lamp and an auxiliary mirror to see close to the front of the van. Suspension uses MacPherson struts at the front and leaf springs at the rear. The range runs from the Commuter Deluxe Standard Roof and High Roof to the Tourer Deluxe High Roof automatic and the Luxury Wagon High Grade at the top.

Colour choice depends on the version: the Commuter Standard Roof comes in white or silver, the Commuter High Roof adds beige, and the Tourer High Roof adds light blue.

Warranty

Toyota Pakistan says all its locally assembled and imported vehicles carry a warranty of 3 years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first.

Which variant to buy

In our opinion, the Commuter High Roof is the best choice for staff transport and school or tour operators, because the extra headroom makes boarding easier for Rs 1,890,000 more than the standard roof. The Tourer automatic suits hotels and corporate fleets that want an easier drive, while the Luxury Wagon is for VIP transport. Prices run from Rs 13,069,000 to Rs 21,029,000, so the top version costs almost Rs 8 million more than the cheapest one.
