The Union Star YH EV, also listed as the US YH Eco, is a battery-electric scooter driven by a 1,200 W (1.2 kW) motor. Its published torque figure is 7 Nm and its listed top speed is 55 km/h, which suits city streets rather than fast main roads. Power comes from a 72V 23Ah graphene battery, roughly 1.65 kWh of storage. The listed range is about 60 to 65 km per charge, and a full charge from a standard home socket takes about 6 hours. Like other electric scooters there is no gearbox or clutch: it starts electrically and you simply twist the throttle and go.
The YH EV measures 1,860 mm long, 780 mm wide and 1,100 mm tall, with a 1,200 mm wheelbase and 130 mm of ground clearance. Dry weight is listed at 85 kg, so it is light enough to push around a parking area or down a narrow street. It rides on 12-inch wheels with 3-12 tyres front and rear. Published descriptions mention a low seat, a wide footboard with room for both rider and pillion, and an under-seat storage compartment for small items. With a 60 to 65 km range, a rider doing a 10 to 30 km daily commute should be able to charge every one or two days.
There is one version of the YH EV, and colour does not change the price. Listed equipment includes disc brakes at the front and rear, an LED headlamp with daytime running lights, a digital display showing speed and battery level, and a mobile charging port. It is sold in green, grey and red. Features such as an immobilizer, alarm, regenerative braking or a removable battery are not confirmed in the listings we found, so check them at the dealer.
We could not find a published warranty for the YH EV. Ask the dealer for written terms on the battery, motor and controller before you pay, because the battery is the most expensive part to replace.
As there is only one variant, the real choice is between the YH EV and its Union Star stablemates. Our opinion: the YH EV makes sense if your budget is tight and your daily distance is short and predictable. If you regularly ride more than 50 km a day, the GC EV offers a bigger battery and a published battery warranty for Rs 30,000 more, while the US V8 eco adds a stronger motor, higher top speed and more range.
