Engine and gearbox

The Foton MP-M280 is the older light truck in Master Motor’s Foton range and is still listed on the official website, which calls it one of the most reliable and best-selling Foton models in Pakistan. The website says its light-duty Foton trucks have engines of 77 to 103 hp, but it does not publish a detailed M280 specification sheet that we could read. PakWheels lists a 2,771 cc four-cylinder diesel with 77 hp and 171 Nm and a manual gearbox, while Gari.pk names the engine as a 4JB1 with a five-speed manual gearbox and hydraulic brakes with vacuum-servo assistance. These figures do not come from Master Motor, so treat them as a guide and confirm them with the dealer.

Size and practicality

According to PakWheels, the M280 measures 5,015 mm long, 1,660 mm wide and 2,240 mm tall, sits on a 2,600 mm wheelbase, runs on 7.00R16 tyres and has a 55-litre fuel tank. Gari.pk separately lists a ground clearance of 190 mm. Master Motor’s website says its light-duty Foton trucks carry between 3 and 5.5 tons, but it does not give an exact payload or gross vehicle weight for the M280. Older dealer price lists from 2023 show it with 11-foot and 14-foot decks and with or without a turbocharger, but we could not confirm which of these versions are on sale today.

Equipment

Master Motor does not publish an equipment list for the M280 on its website. PakWheels lists air conditioning and power door locks, plus a tachometer, an armrest and a USB/AUX audio input. ABS is not mentioned for this model, while both the newer M290-T and the Highlander have it as standard. PakWheels lists the M280 in white and blue.

No warranty information for the M280 is published on the official website, so ask your dealer for the written terms.

Price and which version to buy

Master Motor does not publish a current ex-factory price for the M280. Prices on some third-party websites are several years old and should not be relied on, so ask an authorised dealer for a fresh quote. Opinion: the M280’s long history in Pakistan is its main strength. However, it lacks the turbo power and ABS of the M290-T, which Master Motor positions as its successor. Buy the M280 only if the dealer price is clearly lower than the M290-T’s and you do not need ABS; otherwise the newer truck looks like better value.
