Engine and gearbox

The official Swift brochure lists a K12M 1,197cc four-cylinder petrol engine with DOHC, 16 valves and variable valve timing. It makes 61 kW (about 82 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. The GL comes with a five-speed manual, while the GL (CVT) and GLX (CVT) use a continuously variable automatic with a Sports mode button. Suzuki does not publish an official fuel-economy figure.

Size and practicality

The Swift is built on Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform. The brochure gives a length of 3,845 mm, a width of 1,735 mm, a height of 1,520 mm, a 2,450 mm wheelbase and 160 mm of ground clearance, with a 4.8 metre turning radius. It seats five, the fuel tank holds 37 litres and Suzuki quotes 265 litres of luggage space, with split-folding rear seats for longer loads. All variants ride on 16-inch alloy wheels with 185/55 R16 tyres.

Equipment by variant

Safety is the Swift’s strongest point. Every variant has six airbags (front, side and curtain), ABS with EBD, ESP stability control, ISOFIX anchors, an immobilizer, a security alarm and seat-belt reminders. The two CVT variants add Hill Hold Control. Standard comfort items include a 9-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth, navigation, a SIM slot and smartphone screen mirroring, power windows, central locking with remote, power steering with tilt adjustment, electric mirrors, automatic headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED tail lamps, front and rear fog lamps and a rear wiper. The GLX (CVT) adds LED projector headlamps, a reverse camera, rear parking sensors, cruise control, automatic climate control, push-button start with smart keyless entry, a smart trunk opener, telescopic steering with audio and phone buttons, power-folding mirrors with turn signals, rear speakers and a multi-information display.

Warranty

The brochure lists a warranty of 3 years or 60,000 km, along with the first two services free and roadside assistance.

Which variant to buy

The GL manual at Rs 4,460,160 already has the full six-airbag and ESP safety package. The GL (CVT) costs Rs 145,440 more for the automatic gearbox and Hill Hold. In our opinion the GLX (CVT) at Rs 4,766,190 is the best buy: for another Rs 160,590 it adds the camera, sensors, cruise control, climate control and push start. Two-tone roof colours cost nothing extra on the GLX. Also budget for tax on top of the ex-factory price: the official list shows Rs 66,902 to Rs 71,493 for filers and Rs 200,707 to Rs 214,479 for non-filers, depending on variant.
