JMEV Elight

Battery and motor

The JMEV Elight is a five-seat electric sedan imported by Capital Smart Motors (CSM). Both variants use a 56.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and a 165 kW permanent-magnet motor with 210 Nm of torque, driving the front wheels. CSM’s brochure quotes a 500 km NEDC range, energy use of 16.2 kWh per 100 km, 0–100 km/h in about 8 seconds and a 150 km/h top speed. NEDC figures are optimistic, so expect less on the motorway with the AC on. Eco, Standard and Motion driving modes are standard.

Charging

Charging is through a CCS2 port. A full AC charge takes around 10 hours, and CSM quotes about 7 hours from 30 to 80 percent on its 7 kW home wall box. On a DC fast charger, 30 to 80 percent takes around 30 minutes.

Size and practicality

The Elight measures 4,675 mm long, 1,835 mm wide and 1,480 mm tall on a 2,750 mm wheelbase, making it a proper family-size sedan. The boot holds 410 litres and the rear seat folds in sections for longer items. Ground clearance is 168 mm, which is reasonable for a sedan but needs care over large speed breakers. Suspension is MacPherson strut at the front and multi-link at the rear.

Equipment by variant

The Comfort comes with dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, stability and traction control, brake assist, hill start and hill descent assist, tyre pressure monitoring, an electric parking brake, cruise control, rear parking sensors, keyless entry with push-button start, leather seats, rear AC vents, a 7-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch cluster display, two speakers, halogen headlights with LED daytime running lights, and steel wheels with a spare tyre. The Premium adds front side airbags, a 12.4-inch touchscreen, electric six-way front seats, wireless charging, six speakers, LED headlights, alloy wheels, a panoramic moonroof, a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane change assist, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding mirrors and an auto-dimming mirror.

Warranty

CSM’s brochure lists a 6-year or 100,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year or 150,000 km battery warranty, whichever comes first.

Which variant to buy

In our view, the Premium justifies its Rs 1.5 million extra cost if you plan to keep the car for several years: the extra airbags, 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, LED headlights and larger screen make a real difference every day. If your budget stops at Rs 85 lakh, the Comfort still gives you the same battery, motor and range.
