Hybrid powertrain

The Jaecoo J5 SHS-H is a self-charging hybrid (HEV), so it has no plug and you never need to charge it. It uses a fifth-generation 1.5-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine designed for hybrid use, an electric motor and a 1.83 kWh battery. Jaecoo quotes combined system outputs of 221 hp (165 kW) and 295 Nm, and 0–100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. Power goes through a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). Both variants use exactly the same powertrain.

Fuel economy and range

The official WLTP combined figure is 5.3 litres per 100 km, roughly 18.9 km/l. With a 51-litre tank, Jaecoo claims a driving range of more than 950 km. Your own fuel economy will depend on traffic and heat. In our opinion, a hybrid like this is most efficient in stop-start city driving.

Size and practicality

The J5 is a compact SUV, 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,650 mm tall, on a 2,620 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is 176 mm, and both variants have 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear seats split and fold 60:40, and both versions have rear AC vents. The Pakistani site does not give a boot capacity.

Equipment by variant

The Comfort comes with halogen automatic headlamps, LED daytime running lights, an 8-inch digital cluster and a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has two speakers, fabric seats with a 6-way manual driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX mounts and two front airbags.

The Premium adds LED headlamps, a 540-degree panoramic camera, a panoramic glass roof, a 13.2-inch touchscreen, eight speakers and a 50W wireless charger. It also adds faux leather seats, a 6-way power driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, front ambient lighting, adaptive cruise control, and side and curtain airbags, for six airbags in total. The model page also lists blind spot detection, forward collision warning, intelligent high beam, lane change assist and rear cross traffic assist, but it does not say which variant gets them.

Warranty

The official site shows a 6-year or 150,000 km warranty. It also shows an 8-year or 160,000 km cover next to a battery icon. Freight and transit insurance of Rs 55,000 is charged on top of the ex-factory price.

Price and which variant to buy

The official price list shows Rs 6,699,000 for the Comfort and Rs 7,699,000 for the Premium, including applicable taxes. Several Pakistani news sites report a NexGen Auto circular that raises both prices by Rs 300,000 for bookings from 1 October 2026, so check the current price with a dealer. In our opinion, the Premium is the one to buy. For about Rs 1,000,000 more, you get four extra airbags, the camera system, adaptive cruise control and ventilated seats. The Comfort makes sense if you want hybrid fuel economy at the lowest price.
