Range-extender powertrain

The iCAUR V27 is a range-extended electric SUV (REEV). Its wheels are always driven by two electric motors, 150 kW at the front and 185 kW at the rear, for a combined 335 kW (449 hp) and 505 Nm, giving electric all-wheel drive and a claimed 0–100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds. A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine (1.5 TGDI) works as a generator to recharge the 34.31 kWh CATL LFP battery. NexGen quotes 150 km of electric range and 1,000 km of combined range, both on the NEDC cycle, with a 60-litre fuel tank. Charging is 7 kW AC and up to 100 kW DC through a CCS2 inlet, with 20–80% claimed in 15 minutes, and a 7 kW wall charger and 3.3 kW portable charger are listed. The car can also supply 6.6 kW to external devices.

Size and practicality

This is a big SUV: 5,045 mm long, 1,976 mm wide and 1,894 mm tall on a 2,900 mm wheelbase, with 220 mm of ground clearance. It seats five in two rows. Boot space is listed as 715 litres, rising to 1,818 litres with the 40:60 split second row folded flat. It rides on 21-inch alloys with 265/45 R21 tyres and carries a full-size spare. Adventure-minded extras include load-bearing roof rails, side steps, tow hooks, an under-body protection plate, a 1.6-tonne towing capacity and built-in 1/4-inch accessory mounts.

Equipment

The V27 comes in one fully loaded version. Safety equipment includes seven airbags (including a front centre airbag), adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, emergency lane keeping, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert and braking, a driver monitoring system, fully automatic parking and a 540-degree camera system. The cabin gets an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.4-inch Snapdragon 8155 touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 15 Pioneer speakers with a subwoofer, 50 W wireless charging, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, six-way powered and ventilated front seats with driver memory, ambient lighting, a double dome sunroof and a Qibla compass.

Warranty

The brochure lists 6 years or 150,000 km on the vehicle and 8 years or 160,000 km on the battery, whichever comes first, with terms and conditions applying.

Which variant to buy

There is only one V27 on sale, priced at Rs 12,499,000 ex-factory plus Rs 70,000 for freight and insurance. Our opinion: it suits buyers who want electric driving in town but cannot rely on public chargers for long trips, because the petrol generator removes range worries. Families who need seven seats should look elsewhere, and real-world ranges will be lower than the NEDC claims.
