The Vlektra Retro is the brand’s most affordable motorcycle. It uses a 1,500 W hub motor that Vlektra rates at 100 Nm of torque, with a top speed of 70 km/h. Its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery is listed as 24 Ah; the voltage is not published. Vlektra quotes a range of 80 km per charge and a charging time of 2.5 hours with the included AC 220 V charger, which plugs into any standard wall socket. The company says the battery is built for all weather and lasts up to 10 years, shorter than the 15 years it claims for its bigger models. A battery management system protects the pack and, according to Vlektra, immobilises the bike if it detects a risk.
The Retro has telescopic front forks and dual spring-loaded rear shock absorbers, and Vlektra says it is designed to soak up potholes and rough surfaces. Tyres are 2.75-18 at the front and 90/90-17 at the rear; the larger front wheel is meant to add stability on broken roads. Braking uses a front drum and a rear dual-piston disc according to the specification table, with a combined braking system (CBS). Vlektra says the Retro can carry around 180 kg without affecting speed or range. The official site does not publish dimensions, weight or seat height.
The Retro comes in one variant. It has a 7-inch round LED headlight with high and low beam and daytime running light, round LED indicators, an LED tail light and a digital meter. The specification table lists three riding modes with reverse assistance, while the feature section describes eco and sport modes. Like other Vlektra bikes, it is described as IP67 water-resistant.
Vlektra gives a 3-year replacement warranty on the battery and a 2-year replacement warranty on the motor.
At Rs 279,000, discounted from Rs 299,000, the Retro is Rs 60,000 cheaper than the standard Velocity 180. In our opinion, it suits short daily city commutes where 80 km of range is enough and a classic look appeals, and running costs stay low because there is no engine oil or filter to change. If you ride longer distances, the Velocity 180 offers more than twice the quoted range for a moderate extra cost, which we think makes it the better buy for most commuters. Confirm the brake setup and charging time at the showroom, because different parts of the official site give different details.
