JAC T9 overview and our opinion
Engine and gearbox
Both versions of the JAC T9 sold in Pakistan use the same 1,999cc common-rail turbo diesel engine, rated at 168 hp and 410 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The difference is the drivetrain: the Frison is rear-wheel drive (4×2), while the Hunter has four-wheel drive (4×4). PakWheels quotes fuel economy of 10 to 12 km/l, but we could not confirm an official figure from JAC. The engine is rated to Euro II emission standards.
Size and practicality
The T9 is a large double-cabin pickup measuring 5,330 mm long, 1,965 mm wide and 1,920 mm tall, on a 3,110 mm wheelbase. It seats five and has a 76-litre fuel tank. Launch reports put the Frison’s payload at 1,000 kg. Published ground clearance figures differ (220 mm and 240 mm), so check with the dealer if you plan regular rough-road or off-road use.
Equipment by variant
Both variants come with leather-accented seats, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and 4-way power-adjustable passenger seat, heated front seats, automatic climate control, push-button start, drive modes, cruise control, an electric sunroof and a 10.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety equipment includes ABS, EBD, traction control, electronic stability control, hill hold, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX mounts and a 360-degree camera. Outside there are LED headlamps and daytime running lights, roof rails, a protective bedliner and heated, auto-folding mirrors. The Frison has its own grille and dual-spoke alloy wheels and is reported with 6 airbags. The Hunter adds four-wheel drive, a roll bar and side steps; its airbag count is reported differently by different sources.
Warranty
We could not confirm the warranty terms Ghandhara offers on the T9 in Pakistan. Ask your dealer for the written warranty before you book.
Price and booking
The Frison costs Rs 8,775,000 and the Hunter Rs 10,500,000 ex-factory. Withholding tax is extra and is higher for non-filers. JAC said prices would rise from January 2026 once Ghandhara stopped absorbing the NEV levy, so confirm the current price with a dealer before paying.
Which variant to buy
Our opinion: for most buyers who drive in cities and on highways, the Frison is the better buy. It has the same engine, gearbox and nearly the same equipment for Rs 1,725,000 less than the Hunter. Choose the Hunter only if you really need four-wheel drive, for example for farm tracks, sand or northern mountain roads.
