The BAW Brumby is a fully electric hatchback. BAW New Asia’s official page says the motor delivers a maximum of 30 kW and 110 Nm, with Eco and Sport driving modes. The most recent specification sheet on the official site lists a 17.28 kWh lithium-ion battery, a permanent magnet synchronous motor rated at 15 kW continuous, rear-wheel drive, a single-speed automatic and a claimed range of 220 km. Top speed is at least 100 km/h. Older spec sheets on the same website quote 15.12 kWh, 25 kW and 172 km, so ask the dealer which battery your car will have. Charging details are not published officially; PakWheels lists about six hours on AC through a GB/T port.
The Brumby is a five-door, four-seat car measuring 3,532 mm long, 1,498 mm wide and 1,605 mm tall, with a 2,275 mm wheelbase. That makes it 370 mm longer than the BAW Pony, with 225 mm more between the wheels. Kerb weight is 850 kg. It uses MacPherson front suspension, a three-link rear axle, front discs and rear drums, and 155/65 R13 tyres. Boot space is not published, and reviews describe it as small. In our opinion, the rear doors are the main reason to choose it, as getting children or older passengers into the back is far easier than in a three-door car.
Only one version is sold. BAW highlights tyre pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera and Eco and Sport modes. BAW also says the Brumby has passed the Chinese frontal-crash occupant protection standard GB 11551-2014 and the post-crash electric vehicle safety standard GB/T 31498-2021. Third-party listings add power windows on all four doors, keyless entry, an electric parking brake, a digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch display and two airbags, but these are not confirmed on the official site. Official colours are Grey and White.
No warranty terms for the car or its battery are published on BAW New Asia’s website. Get the battery warranty in writing from the dealer before paying.
With just one variant at Rs 3,800,000 ex-factory, the decision is really Brumby versus Pony. In our view, the Brumby is the better buy for most families because its five doors and longer wheelbase make it more usable every day, while the claimed range is the same as the Pony’s. The Pony only makes more sense if the Rs 200,000 saving matters more than rear-seat access. As with any small electric car, check that you can charge at home before booking.
