Engine and gearbox

Both versions of the Peugeot 2008 use the same 1199cc PureTech 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Peugeot Pakistan quotes 131 hp (96 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 230 Nm of torque from 1,750 rpm, delivered through a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Normal, Eco and Sport drive modes are standard on both variants. The official brochure claims 13 to 14 km/l in the city and 16 to 18 km/l on the highway, and the car needs servicing every 10,000 km or six months.

Size and practicality

The 2008 measures 4,300 mm long, 1,770 mm wide and 1,550 mm tall, with a 2,605 mm wheelbase and 170 mm of ground clearance. It seats five. The boot holds 434 litres (VDA), rising to 1,467 litres with the split rear bench folded, and has a two-level floor so you can choose between a flat loading area or maximum depth. The fuel tank holds 45 litres, and both variants ride on 17-inch diamond-cut Karakoy alloy wheels with 215/60 R17 tyres and a spare wheel.

Equipment by variant

The Active comes with four airbags (front and side), ESP, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX mounts, an electric parking brake, four-wheel disc brakes, rear parking sensors and an HD rear camera. Inside you get automatic climate control, smart entry with push-button start, a 10-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10-inch instrument cluster, four speakers, Eco LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights and LED tail lamps.

The Allure adds curtain airbags for a total of six, full LED headlamps with automatic lighting, and a driver-assistance pack: cruise control with speed limiter, lane keep assist, active blind spot detection with front sensors, high beam assist, traffic sign recognition and driver attention alert. It also gets the 3D digital instrument cluster, a Cielo panoramic sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, roof rails, ice-blue ambient lighting and six speakers.

Warranty and servicing

Peugeot Pakistan offers a warranty of 4 years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first, starting from the date of first registration. The first three scheduled services are free. The official brochure lists six dealerships across Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Sialkot.

Which variant to buy

Our opinion: the Active already covers the basics well, with a turbo engine, automatic gearbox, rear camera, touchscreen with wireless phone mirroring and push-button start, so city drivers on a tighter budget will not feel short-changed. However, we think the Allure is the better buy for most families. For Rs 700,000 more it adds two extra airbags and a full set of driver aids such as blind spot detection and lane keep assist, which are useful on motorways and cannot be added later, plus the panoramic sunroof and 3D cluster that make the cabin feel more premium.
